About Dr Lei Liu
Dr Lei Liu is an experienced ophthalmologist specialising in cataract surgery and comprehensive eye care, with additional subspecialty expertise in glaucoma. She has more than two decades of local and international experience, having trained and practised in Germany, the United Kingdom and Australia.
Dr Liu has extensive experience in modern cataract surgery and offers a comprehensive range of lens options, including premium intraocular lenses, tailored to each patient’s visual needs, lifestyle and eye health. She takes a personalised approach to cataract surgery, carefully considering each patient’s expectations and helping them make an informed decision about the most appropriate lens and surgical option.
She also has advanced expertise in the management of glaucoma, having completed two dedicated glaucoma fellowships at Bristol Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom and the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne. Her experience includes minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), glaucoma filtration and drainage procedures, and combined cataract and glaucoma surgery.
As a comprehensive ophthalmologist, Dr Liu also diagnoses and manages a broad range of retinal and general eye conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusion.
Dr Liu is an Ophthalmology Consultant at The Alfred Hospital and a Senior Lecturer at Monash University. She is actively involved in medical education, research and mentoring the next generation of ophthalmologists.
Dr Liu believes that excellent eye care begins with understanding each patient as an individual. She takes the time to explain treatment options clearly, discuss the benefits and considerations of different approaches, and develop a treatment plan suited to each patient’s needs. She is committed to providing high-quality, personalised care with clear communication and continuity throughout the patient journey.
Dr Liu speaks English and Mandarin.
