OVERVIEW

What are eye laser treatments?

Eye laser is a focused beam of light used for several different conditions. The purpose and settings are different for each treatment, so a careful diagnosis comes first.

SYMPTOMS

Signs to look out for

Symptoms can overlap across conditions. An eye examination is needed to identify the cause.
  • Elevated eye pressure or glaucoma progression
  • Hazy vision after previous cataract surgery
  • Glare caused by a cloudy posterior capsule
  • Leaking or abnormal retinal blood vessels
  • A retinal tear or another finding that needs a laser barrier

TREATMENT

Treatment and monitoring options

Your plan depends on the cause, stage of disease, wider eye health and what matters in daily life.

SLT for glaucoma

Selective laser trabeculoplasty treats the natural drainage tissue to help fluid leave the eye. It may be offered before or alongside drops, depending on your type of glaucoma.

YAG capsulotomy

After cataract surgery, the thin capsule behind the artificial lens can become cloudy. YAG laser makes a small opening in that capsule to clear the visual axis.

Retinal laser treatment

Retinal laser can seal selected leaking vessels, treat abnormal vessels or create a barrier around some retinal tears. The pattern and number of sessions depend on the retinal condition.
